One of our most popular pre-decorated collections is the
Candy Collection. This collection of
ornaments is reminiscent of peppermints and sugar plums. We believe the popularity of this collection
comes from the association of peppermint candies to Christmas.
We have searched high and low (to no avail) to find a
link with peppermint candies and Christmas.
Although no one really has a definite explanation to this tradition, or
any facts supporting their theories, the association is undeniable. The most popular, widely accepted theory we
found, is this: In 1670 (although the date is of debate as well), the choirmaster at the Cologne
Cathedral in Germany bent sugar-sticks into canes to represent a shepherd's
staff. The all-white candy canes were given out to children during the
long-winded nativity services to keep them occupied.
The stripes on candy
canes are not recorded until after the 1900’s.
Although no one has solid explanations for the stripes, either, the red
stripes are believed by many Christians to represent the blood that was shed by
Christ on the cross.
A wreath or garland decorated with our Candy Collection
would be the perfect addition to any room, but imagine placing one of these
beauties in your child’s room near Christmas time to encourage dreams of sugar
plums dancing in their heads.
A kitchen or dining room would also make a wonderful host
for a Candy Collection wreath or garland.
Everyone loves sweet treats after their meals, and holiday meals are no
different. One of our Candy pieces could
help satisfy the ‘sweet tooth’ without actually consuming all of the wonderful
calories that come with traditional sweet treats.
Our Candy Collection greenery is available in either a
wreath (2’, 3’, 4’, 5’, or 6’ in diameter) or a 9’ garland. If you need something larger, we can
customize to suit your needs with just a 48-72 hour turn-around time.
Have further questions about our Candy Collection, or any
collection? Simply give us a call or
send us an email. We would love to help
in any way possible – please just do not ask us how peppermint candies got their
connection to Christmas. Unfortunately where the peppermint
candy/Christmas association is concerned, we cannot provide any solid
foundation for the connection.
