Thanksgiving is a time of family gatherings, great food, and reflection. With fall fully upon us and winter just around the corner, the décor ideas are endless! We found some fabulous DIY décor ideas for you this Thanksgiving!!
Fall Leaf Lamp – This project can actually serve for fall in general. A lamp can be accomplished in many different shapes and styles, depending on your taste. Start with a Mason jar, an empty, clean wine bottle, a clear vase of any shape or size, or just about any other glass container you can think of. Using an array of fall leaves (the more colors/shades you use, the more beautiful it will turn out), mod podge the leaves, and simply apply them to the outside of the glass container. Allow to dry overnight, drop in some battery operated lights, and you have created a fabulous lamp to add some fall décor to any room in your house.
Shadow Box – This will be another fairly simple project. Find a shadow box at your local resale shop or your local craft store. Start with some battery operated lights. You can lay them on the bottom, or use adhesive to outline the perimeter of the shadow box, whichever you like best. Now simply add some filler; small pumpkins and gourds, acorns, candy corn, leaves of different shades, pine cones, etc. This would also work in a large glass vase on your entryway table. Create a few using different fillers to add some depth to your space.
HoliSphere Transformation – Turn one of our HoliSphere’s into a pumpkin or turkey to add to your Thanksgiving table. This one is going to take a lot more imagination on your part. It’s possible, but you may need to experiment with the ‘extremities’ on your own.
First, lets explore the pumpkin aspect. Wrap a HoliSphere in orange lights, then wrap it in orange tissue paper, orange tulle, or orange ribbon. If you choose ribbon, it will look better looped, which will take a little more time, but be well worth the effort. Wrap the lights so that the plug portion comes out the top so you can hang your pumpkin. You can then use the cord to help create the ‘stem’ of the pumpkin. Simply wrap a portion of the cord with brown tissue paper, tulle, or ribbon. Since the HoliSpheres come in packs of three, 10”, 12”, and 14”, you can create several pumpkins of different sizes.
Now to tackle this turkey! Stuff the light inside the HoliSphere, or wrap with lights. White will probably work best since brown lights aren’t possible. Ribbon will work best for this project. You’ll need to loop the ribbon and secure each side of each loop to the HoliSphere. You could do this with hot glue or zip ties. For this reason, plan more time for this project. Your creativity comes into play now. There are several ways to create the tail feathers and face (the caruncles and dewlap are up to you). You can purchase feathers of different sizes/colors from your local craft store, or you could pull apart feather boas for the tail feathers. Attach the feathers to the HoliSphere using wire (possibly wire hangers, cut to length), or attach them using strips of cardboard. For the neck/beak, you could cover a toilet paper roll (without the toilet paper) with tissue paper & create a beak out of a second toilet paper roll cut in half. We have some creative customers, so we are certain you can come up with more ways to make a neck and beak happen.
