Based on the American Cancer Society, 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
And early detection makes a HUGE difference in survival. According to the American
Society of Clinical Oncology, up to 97% of women diagnosed with early stage
breast cancer will survive 5 years after diagnosis. Early detection is vital, which is why
efforts to raise awareness are so high.
October is National
Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Several organizations and
fundraisers occur each year in October.
With great strides having been made, but much more to be done to raise
awareness and prevention, awareness is really a year-round effort.
The Susan
G. Komen foundation does
a tremendous job throughout the year to help raise awareness and money toward
research aimed at ending Breast Cancer.
Follow their blog for
resources and information year-round.
You can also get involved through either donations or fundraising
opportunities through their site. Each
year they host a 5k
walk/run in hundreds of cities across the nation to raise
funds. We encourage you to find one near
you and get involved if this is a cause near and dear to you.
Another Breast Cancer awareness campaign is Pink for October. Their main goal is to turn everything on the
internet pink in the month of October in an effort to raise awareness and
encourage people to get involved, if even in the smallest way.
Save The Ta-Ta’s
Foundation sells apparel and miscellaneous products year-round to
help fund research efforts.
Smaller, local efforts to raise awareness occur in
hundreds, maybe thousands, of cities across the country – especially in
October. Beards for boobies is one such
‘awareness effort’ that several men in our local area participate in. They simply do not shave their beards in the
month of October in an attempt to raise awareness.
The NFL and MLB associations, along with many others,
incorporate pink into some (or multiple) aspect of their uniforms during the
month of October to raise awareness as well.
We had many requests from customers to come up with a
beautiful option to display year-round that not only raises Breast Cancer
awareness, but adds depth and is able to transform any room in your
home/business. Our solution was the
Pretty in Pink ornament collection pre-decorated wreaths and garlands.

This gorgeous wreath is available in 2’, 3’, 4’, 5’, and
6’ for your home or business. If you
need something larger, we can custom make any size that will fit your
venue. The garland is 9’ in length and
the branches span an impressive 14” in diameter. See our online store or give us a call for
pricing.
No matter how you choose to show your support, or raise
awareness, we would encourage you to take up some effort, albeit small. If you have never been affected by breast
cancer personally, or had someone close to you diagnosed, you almost undeniably
know someone who has.
