Are you tired of giving the same gifts over and over again for Mother’s Day? Flowers will die, but lights are forever. Light up her life with lights this Mother’s Day. Instead of wracking your brain to think outside the box, we’ve got some ideas to make you question if a box even exists! This first project is sure to ‘illuminate’ mom’s spirit every time she sees it. A lighted end-table to set next to her favorite chair or outside on the patio is a completely out-of-the-ordinary DIY project she is sure to love; and the work required will not be nearly as complex as the sophisticated finished project will look. Find any pot, approximately 24”-36”. You can use any shape, a flower pot or urn would work well. Drill a hole in the pot for the cord to come through. Drill the hole in the back for a wall outlet, or the bottom for a floor outlet. The next step is to fill the container with string lights. One solid color of lights would give an elegant look, or you can use any combination of mom’s favorite colors; either will be beautiful. The last step is to affix (using silicone adhesive) a glass top. Any art or craft store will carry several varieties of shapes and sizes of glass. Choose a piece of glass slightly larger than the top of your container. Place next to mom’s favorite chair while she’s out, and watch her face ‘light up’ when she comes home. At your local thrift store or craft store, pick up an inexpensive shadow box. Paint the outside mom’s favorite color. Using silicone adhesive, secure battery operated lights to the inside perimeter, making sure the battery pack is secured to the back of the shadow box. Place a photo of you and mom, or mom’s favorite picture of you and your siblings or you and your family onto the controller. To add some extra flare and make it more personal for mom, you could surround the frame with your mother’s favorite small collectible, such as seashells or buttons. Since Mother’s Day is often associated with spring/summer, flowers are common gifts. If your mother loves flowers and you still want a gift that incorporates flowers, we have the perfect DIY Mother’s Day project for you. Use our HoliSpheres and some string lights to create a one-of-a-kind hanging flower pot for mom to display on her porch. Our lights are waterproof, so watering the plant will not be an issue, just make sure the plug isn’t directly below the HoliSphere. Simply place your potted plant inside the HoliSphere and wrap the lights around, using the lights sparingly at the top (so you don’t hide the beauty of the flower) and more heavily around the flower pot. Hang using guide wire. These are just a few unique DIY projects you can create for your mother. Step out of the norm, and create something that will ‘glow’ year-round!
