Charity is extremely important to the staff of Glittering Lights. We are thankful for the opportunity to continue our partnership with some outstanding Las Vegas area charities that have been helping the community for years. A portion of the profits from Glittering Lights will go to support these charities.
Speedway Children’s Charity is near and dear to our heart. These fabulous folks distribute grants to local children’s charities. They do all the hard work by closely scrutinizing the charity, their mission and organization and decide the appropriate level of granting for their program. They are very dedicated people and do so much for Las Vegas. We provide a generous portion of each ticket sold to support Speedway Children’s Charity.
Here’s more information about Speedway Children’s Charity.
Since 1999, the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities has distributed $1.7 million in funding to children’s organizations in the southern Nevada area surrounding the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The funds distributed by Speedway Children’s Charities are raised through special events held throughout the year. Some of the annual events include the NASCAR Driver Auction, Mel Larson Night of Champions, Golf Tournament, NHRA “Cards for Kids” Poker Tournament, and WNFR Celebrity Bowling Tournament.
Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Las Vegas Chapter has granted funds to more than one local children’s organization you may be familiar with. In 2009, the Las Vegas Chapter distributed $275,000 to 78 different children’s organizations that meet the direct needs of children across southern Nevada. Speedway Children’s Charities is more than just a fundraiser – we are a partner in change! Our local Board of Trustees oversee the distribution of funds to qualified children’s-based 501(c)(3) organizations. Local challenges ranging from learning disabilities, broken homes, and childhood cancer are only a few items on the agenda our organization supports.
We had the privilege of touring one of the drop-off locations of Goodwill of Southern Nevada and were blown away at the amazing work that’s being done. They have an entire warehousing facility where goods were being sorted for resale in their many retails shops, packaged goods for recycling, resold goods to third parties for scrap parts that would otherwise end up in landfills. There was even a section devoted to online sales of designer and collectibles. They had people helping people find jobs, rewrite resumes and even job training. We were so impressed with their work and so proud to partner with them. We love Goodwill of Southern Nevada and encourage you to bring a bag of gently used clothing for a discount on your Glittering Lights ticket.
